Invisalign FAQ

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a breakthrough in orthodontics that corrects bite problems using a series of custom made, nearly invisible, removable appliances called Aligners.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign combines your diagnosis and treatment plan with advances in 3-D computer graphics technology to move teeth in stages using a series of custom-made clear Invisalign Aligners. Patients wear each set of Invisalign Aligners for a minimum of two weeks, 22 hours per day, moving their teeth gradually -- week by week, millimeter by millimeter -- until the desired results are acheived.

Why should I choose Invisalign over the traditional choice of braces?

Invisalign offers a variety of patient benefits that may make the process more appealing to you than wearing braces.

  • Invisalign is a breakthrough in orthodontics that corrects bite problems using a series of custom made, nearly invisible, removable appliances called Aligners.

  • Invisalign is, as the name suggests, virtually invisible. Nobody should be able to tell that you are wearing them.

  • Invisalign is comfortable. There are no wires or brackets that cause irritation.

  • Invisalign is removable. Patients can still eat and brush normally while in treatment.. Oral hygiene is easy to maintain.

  • With Invisalign, patients can visulaize their virtual treatment plan before beginning the Invisalign treatment and see how their teeth will look when treatment is complete, as well as every stage in between.

How does the Invisalign process work?

First your dentist will take a detailed impression of your teeth and send it to Invisalign. Invisalign then scans your impression to create a highly accurate, 3D model of your teeth. A computerized movie is then made depicting the movement of teeth from beginning to the projected final position. Invisalign then uses laser suring to build a set of resin models that reflect each stage of your personalized treatment plan. From the resin models, Invisalign manufactures a series of clear Aligners with the specified movements built into the shape of each one sequantially. Invisalign will then ship the Aligners to your dentist along with your Patient Starter Kit. You will then wear each set of Invisalign Aligners for a minimum of two weeks, 22 hours per day. Your teeth will move gradually until the desired results are acheived and your Invisalign treatment is completed!

How can I qualify for Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign may be a viable opportunity for those patients whose permanent teeth have fully erupted, which usually takes place between the ages of 12 and 16. Invisalign cannot treat all cases, but your dentist will go over the best options with you.

The above information was adapted from the Invisalign Reference Guide.

In closing, our dentists have had extensive training in the option of Invisalign treatment. Our dentists are specially trained in doing computer-enhanced clear orthodontic appliance therapy -- made right now by 2 competing companies, Invisalign and Orthoclear, both of which we have experience with. Should you wish to explore your options to acheive a straighter, more attractive smile, please feel free to contact our offices about Invisalign at 713.795.5905.
