Equine dental instruments are those that are used (as the name would imply) to treat your horses when it comes time to deal with their dentistry needs.  Like other domesticated animals, horses are going to need regular attention to their medical needs.  In some cases, this will extend to needing dental care in addition to other medical care and treatment.  Unless you’re in a situation where you regularly encounter horses, this might not be something you’ve ever thought about before.  Clearly, typical tools used for human dentistry aren’t going to be appropriate for the treatment of horses, so the horses will need their own specialized equine dental instruments.

It’s suggested that foals have their first foray into dentistry soon after birth.  This gives you the best start into treating any possible issues, particularly if you end up dealing with congenital problems.  The wolf teeth are often removed from the yearling foal, and it’s further suggested that you have checkups twice a year until the foal is five years old.  At this point, the permanent teeth should all be in.  You can then begin an appointment schedule of once or twice a year, where the person checking the teeth will use equine dental instruments.  In addition to regular checkups, you’ll want to keep an eye out for any concerns about the horse’s teeth.  If the horse shows any indications of being hesitant with its food, it might be a matter to take to the tech or vet.  Facial swelling, bad breath, or refusal to eat certain things may also be an indication that you should get your horse looked at.  If your horse shows any behavioral changes while riding, this could also possibly be a sign that your horse has problems with its teeth that need to be attended to.  You can do your own research to see which things might be a good idea for following up on, and see which things tend to be related to dental issues.

If you are a horse vet, whether you’re looking for a suspended head support or a wolf tooth elevator for your equine dental instruments, you should be able to talk with your supply company to see what they can do for you.  You may want to do some price comparison, but do keep in mind that price isn’t the only thing to consider.  You’ll also want to take things like customer support into account when you’re deciding where to spend your money for your dental supplies.  You’ll also want to be sure you’re aware of the return policy and any guarantees that may be applicable.  Like many supply companies, you’ll probably be appreciative if you can find one that regularly meets your needs.  You can build a good relationship with a company, and use them for your purchases for ages if things work out well.  You will always know where to go in order to make your purchases of equine dental instruments, and you will have a company you can feel comfortable recommending to your friends and vets for their purchases.
