In a simple extraction procedure, a local anesthetic is used which is administered with a needle and syringe. The tooth is then loosened with an elevator. An elevator is a piece of handheld equipment that has sharp blades that can be attached to the end. These blades help to loosen the tooth at the roots before forceps are used to extract the tooth.
