Dental Implants That Supports A Denture Houston Medical Center Dentist

August 4th, 2011

Question: Hi, I currently have 5 dental implants in my upper jaw along with a dolder bar which supports a denture. Pretty clumsy and old technology and I wondered what was new in this regard. Although I reside in Canada I have family in Conroe and visit often, and saw your ad on a recent visit.

What I am waiting for is technology that will enable me to get rid of the denture implant by adding teeth to each implant, or some variation thereof.

If you can help I would like to start a discussion with you.

Regards
~Joe Mackenzie

Answer: Thanks for the enquiry.  We would be more than happy to help you out.  We have switched a person that has an implant supported denture to a fixed porcelain bridge that is supported by cosmetic dental implants (this functions more like natural teeth).  The first place to start is to come in for a consultation.  Within an hour, we can do an evaluation of your mouth and come up with a recommendation(s) for you.  Would you like to set up an appointment?

I hope this answers your questions.

Thanks,

Reply: Thanks for the prompt reply, I would be happy to see you on my next visit but dates have not yet been settled. I will revert to you in due course as soon as I know the dates.

If you were to be able to give me a fixed porcelain bridge could you estimate an approximate cost?

Also I seem to recall that some problems used to occur with speech (lisping) in the older types of implant, have you encountered this as a problem with the fixed bridge system?

Houston Dentist Explains “Snap In Dentures” With Dental Implants

April 25th, 2011

Question: I would like to know if the snap-in dentures are a one day procedure and about how much does it cost. Thank you

Answer: All of this depends on the situation.  There are simple situations that are quick and easy and can be done in one step, and there are more complex situations that require several appointments.  So, without seeing you and understanding your situation, I cannot give you a very good answer – the same as to price – easy ones are cheaper than hard ones.

I am not sure what you mean by “snap in dentures”.    There are some appliances that have been called “snap-on-smile, and there are overdentures supported by dental implants that snap in…so again, I would have to understand your situation to understand your question.

Easy answer:  Make an appointment for an exam and photos and x-rays.  We can then help you to understand your problems and various solutions according to your needs and wants.

Houston Dentist Talks About Adult Baby Tooth & Dental Implants

April 4th, 2011

Question: Hi, I am 25 years old and still have a baby Tooth, it’s the third tooth from the front (eye tooth) I really don’t like it, it makes me feel self conscious. I am just wondering what my options are, am I able to have the tooth removed and a dental implant put in or if the adult tooth is still up in my gum am I able to just have that removed as well and still get a dental implant? I thought of having Braces to pull it down does not appeal to me. Or am I able to get something put over it to make it look like it’s the same size as my Other teeth?

Answer: Thanks for your enquiry.  Your dental issue is not that uncommon and we have helped many patients like yourself.  In order for us to tell you exactly what your dental options are, we need to do a comprehensive exam in order to evaluate your problem.  Once we have determined what your exact needs, we will then be able to give you several different treatment options.  We would be more than happy to help you out.  Would you like to make an appointment?

Why Are Houston Dentists Some Of The Very Best In The Nation?

March 16th, 2011

Houston dentists are some of the very best in the nation. You will find some of the more experienced and highly trained dentists around the Houston area.  Houston dentists focus on making your smile the very best it can be.  A smile can be infectious, and it can mean the world when it is shared with someone who is having a rough day.  A smile can make that first impression that no one will forget, or light up an entire room.  The smile can only do these things if it is healthy, and a good dentist will pride themselves on helping you achieve that.

A general dentist is the one that cleans our teeth, fills our cavities and does the most common types of procedures. Another type of dentistry is cosmetic dentistry.  Cosmetic dentistry makes your smile pleasing to the eye.  Whitening your teeth, implants, fillings, braces are all procedures related to cosmetic dentistry.  Houston area dentists are successful at all types of dentistry, but they definitely excel at cosmetic dentistry, making sure that every single smile counts.

Implant dentistry has been around for thousands of years.  The idea is still the same, but the methods have certainly changed with the advancement of technology.  In the early 60’s dentists starting using titanium for implants.  They now use a metal alloy called Tivolloy, this is an eco-friendly material.  By using Tivolloy as an anchor, dentists can attach the porcelain crown securely.  Along with modernized equipment has come continued education that keeps Houston dentists up to date on the latest techniques and procedures available.

Houston Dentist Explains Fixing Bottom Denture With Two Implants

March 7th, 2011

Question: In case you need upper and lower full denture with 2 bottom implants. What is the mechanism for fixing bottom denture with the two implant. I understand that the Top denture stays in one place, due to Suction.

For full bottom denture what mechanism is used, to ensure that ensure correct alignment, at all time, you are wearing it. A bracket, an inserting mechanism or do the 2 implants go through denture?

Please advise how long does it take implants to heal, before the final procedure? An email would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Soorain

Answer: Thanks for the email.  Implants can be used on both the upper and lower arches, depending on the patient and their wants.  Here are some photos of a lower over-denture (common plan that we use for lower edentulous patients).   It consists of 4 dental implants, a custom cast bar that is screwed to the implants, and then a removable over-denture that goes over the bar assembly, being held in by both “o” rings and plastic clips.  These work very well to stabilize a difficult lower denture.

Houston Dentist Explains Dental Implants vs Maryland Bridge

November 10th, 2010

Question: I am missing a single tooth in the front. I have had a Maryland bridge before, but it was broken during a surgical procedure involving a scope. I currently have a flipper but would like another dental bridge. I have no interest in ruining two perfectly good teeth so the Maryland bridge is my favored option. I am looking for a price estimate.

Answer: Thanks for the note – usually we would charge about half of a fixed bridge price – perhaps $2000 + cost of x-ray updates.  This is also depending on any other factors that you may not have thought of… for instance, a heavy bite would dictate that we recommend a protective nightguard, tooth decay areas on adjacent teeth would dictate dental  fillings to be done to remove this decay.  Periodontal disease issues would also have to be resolved prior to making any new restoration.  Also, if you indeed have a Maryland Bridge done, it can be metal-based, or there are more current ceramic materials that can be used.

With the success of dental implants, we are doing this type of treatment much more often than a Maryland Bridge.  It is easier to keep clean, feels more natural with a single dental crown on the implant.   When current dental x-rays are taken, we can discuss your options, which you are pretty current with.  It sounds like the only thing you have not asked about is a single tooth implant to replace the tooth in a stronger manner.

Houston Cosmetic Dentist Explains Snap In Smile

November 9th, 2010

Question:I have alot of cosmetic dentistry work that needs to be done in Houston. I started about a month ago, and the first procedure was 8 hours, extremely painful, and that was just for two temporary crowns. That alone was very expensive. I will have to do this over a long period of time. My question is this:

I have a very important work event next week which will basically have me speaking to a group of several hundred. My teeth are so bad I am embarrassed to get up in front of all those people for that reason only. It is severely damaging to my confidence level. Is there something I can do to at least the visible teeth to allow me to make it through that week of events? I don’t have time to do any expensive work prior. Please advise.

Thank you for your enquiry.  I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time with your dental care.  First of all, you have limited options in trying to conceal your smile without sitting in the dental chair.  If you were able to come in there are several options available to you and it will not take 8 hours to correct your problem.  We have been able to restore a patient’s smile with great looking temporaries in as little as 2 hours.  Another option is a snap on smile.  Both of theses procedures should be able to solve your dental issue.

My suggestion is to come in to see us and we would be able to tell you exactly what is needed in order to help you through your crisis.  I can assure you that we can help you out and you will not spend all day in our office.

Would you like to make an appointment?

October 18th, 2010

Question: My husband needs extensive dental implant work done and we dont have dental insurance only a discount dental policy type of thing.we were wondering the costs at your facilty of everything he would need done?

Answer: Thanks for the inquiry – In order to understand what your husband’s dental needs are and the options for treatment, we would need to do a complete dental exam to include dental x-rays and photos.  With this in hand, we can review the whole situation, and you can understand cost of treatment.

Please call Maria or Debbie at the below number and set up a time for a dental exam.  They should be able to answer most questions you might have over the phone.

Full Mouth Dental Implants

September 2nd, 2010

Queastion: I have a full upper denture and no teeth on the bottom. What is a ball park figure to have a lower and upper implant done? Would I need to have upper implants or can the current denture be used with a bottom implant.

Answer:  Wow – lots of good questions here, Gloria.  It is more complicated than it seems, but there are usually many different ways to use implants to stabilize dentures.  Much of it depends on how much bone you have left.  After the teeth are removed, the bone begins to shrink, and it can shrink dramatically, sometimes so much that dental implants are not a good choice.

There are times when the existing lower denture is in good shape and there is plenty of bone that only 2 denture mplants can make a huge difference.  If the denture is in good shape, it can sometimes be modified to fit implants and have a simple solution.

More commonly, there is a lot of bone that has been lost, and the existing denture is not really usable for a new project.  In these cases, a more complicated routine works well, but as  you can see, it requires more dental implants and more elaborate denture prosthetics.  This is often the best way to strengthen a difficult lower denture situation.

Cost of Dental Implants

July 29th, 2010

Question: I have a lower front tooth with some mobility (due to an accident) and would like to know the approximated cost of a dental implant.

Answer: It is very difficult to give you a fee for an implant, when we are unable to take an x-ray and do a proper evaluation of your loose tooth.  The proper way to handle this would be for you to come and see us and let us determine what is needed.  First of all, you may only need to have the occlusion adjusted (bite) on that tooth or you may be able to retain it if we splint it to the adjacent teeth.

If the tooth is hopeless then we will be able to determine what type of dental implant that you will need in order to replace the tooth.  When you take all of these things into consideration it is difficult to determine that actual cost of fixing this tooth.  We would be more than happy to see you.  Would you like to make an appointment?

Thanks,
